How To Repair Vinyl Paper Ceiling In Rv

Topic: Padded vinyl ceiling
Posted By: clev on 07/10/08 03:41pm My RV is a '94 Holiday, 36 ft, and it has the padded vinyl ceiling throughout. About two years ago, the front console sagged down. We pulled it loose at the 'H' aqueduct and squirted gum into the surface area, placed a large piece of plywood under it, and a scotch board under that, down to the floor. The next twenty-four hour period, it had non stuck. The foam was deteriorated and then badly, that information technology was basically powder. I guess 14 years exceeded the life of the foam. I ordered vinyl, cutting the old piece out, sprayed headliner adhesive on the ceiling and on the foam and attempted to stick information technology support. Needless to say, it did not turn out too expert. Last year, another slice started sagging. This time, we removed the kitchen cabinet that was attached to it, and actually pulled the entire panel down. This fourth dimension, nosotros glued the vinyl directly to the one/four" plywood and attempted to reinstall it. What a chore! Nosotros've worked on it 2 ~ 3 hours a mean solar day, the past 3 days and today, information technology'southward partially up; I was getting so angry, it was time to quit.

Have whatever of yous had to supercede the ceiling vinyl? Is at that place a unproblematic cloak-and-dagger to this job?

Posted By: tom_kat on 07/10/08 07:50pm possibly it was caused from years of loftier estrus breaking information technology down.those plastic rosets that goes up with a screw in the center to hold ceiling upwards might assistance,i have seen them in clear and white.
Posted Past: clev on 07/10/08 07:11pm No, I've never had a leak of any kind.

Posted By: tom_kat on 07/eleven/08 08:14am replaceing a ceiling would exist something i would not look forward to doing information technology looks pretty good,i would like to run into a whole set of pictures done in steps from showtime to finish on the process.
Posted By: clev on 07/14/08 07:14pm Brave, your link looked actually adept. I see you're in San Antone, nearly 40 miles southward. Why didn't yous mail service this a few weeks before and I could have called on you to come upwards and assistance, LOL.

We worked ~ 2 hours a 24-hour interval for 4 days in a row and finally got the 'One' panel installed. Nosotros dropped the cabinet and the i/4 inch plywood ceiling and then glued the vinyl to the plywood. Putting it back up, I had to walk away a few times due to frustration, and finally gave upward for the twenty-four hour period. We finally fitted information technology the side by side day and put the cabinet support. My wife said that if another panel sags, she'south getting plastic flowers to screw to the ceiling to hold information technology up. I don't know what she hated worse, the job or my frustration, LOL.

Posted Past: cybervanner on 07/fourteen/08 07:49pm This sounds similar the same stuff General Motors used for their headliners of their cars in the eighties. The cream deteriorates and information technology comes off the fiberboard backing material. I stock-still the i in my van by buying some short-pile gray carpeting at the big-box hardware store (the interior of my van is gray) I then sewed the carpet to the cobweb-lath with sewing thread & needle. It looks keen, and information technology will NEVER come down now! The short-pile rug also provides some good audio insulation too!
Posted Past: SRTchris on 07/14/08 10:22pm the "glue" you are using, i assume it is 3M make headliner glue?? when yous spray that stuff, needs to be on both sides ( plywood & new material ) and so permit it sit down to completely dry!! once it is completely dry out and then attach it in place. if yous attempt to set contact cement before it is dry, it will stay moisture for years and frustrate y'all to no finish!!. i would use commercial floor adhesive. same thing a contact cement merely yous would take to brush it on. Armstrong flooring makes the product, they make a tar based and a h2o based, stay away from the tar based.

If you lot check the link you will see that i finished the ceiling in May of 07. It's been baking in the Texas sun for over a twelvemonth and no issues with information technology. If you plan on doing your floor check my post on "finishing the flooring" around the same fourth dimension frame(maybe the Mods should make these 2 posts into stickys so everyone tin can view them earlier starting on a flooring or ceiling project".
